The Primary Programme is for 6 years, but divided into two 3-year bands – Lower Primaryland/Elementary and Upper Primaryland/ Elementary.
The Montessori Elementary Programme, designed to encourage children to wonder, work and explore and whose contents are in harmony with the child’s natural development, recognizes that the children are in the second plane of development and this stage is characterized by their reasoning mind; their ability to abstract & imagine; and their passion for research and hands-on exploration. With a natural interest in fairness and justice, children benefit from the various strands of Cosmic Education that are woven into every subject in concrete ways. Hence, they show respect, adopt peaceful practices and develop an awareness of personal responsibility to contribute positively to the world.
Classes: – It ranges from 15 to 20 children to a Teacher & an Assistant. The Teacher prepares the environment and acts as a ‘Learning Designer’, encouraging children to choose the order in which to complete assigned tasks for the week and learn to manage their time through the use of a Weekly Plan. Children self-correct and review their efficiency levels at the end of each week. They then initiate the necessary action for greater efficiency the following week.
Children have the opportunity to work on projects in pairs or groups with older or younger children due to vertical and fluid groupings.
Individual programmes are brought to closure every fortnight as tests are taken to check full understanding of concepts. The Teacher re-arranges the classroom environment based on each child’s needs, interests and abilities. At the end of every term, the teacher produces a confidential progress report which serves as a basis for discussion with parents during Open Day.
